Employment Stability
Trainees
Employees who are trainees at the Technion must receive at least 500 employment units on average per semester. This employment scope shall not be reduced during the standard training period (Master’s degree – two years, PhD – four years).
In exceptional cases, and only after approval for supplementary employment has been granted to the trainee, the minimum employment scope may be reduced to 300 employment units.
An application for supplementary employment can be submitted via the form “Application for Approval of Supplementary Employment” (in Hebrew).
In cases of temporary suspension due to parenthood and/or military reserve duty, the eligibility period for employment placement will be extended accordingly.
For more details see the appendix to the 2018 Collective Agreement.
Status of “Permanent Lecturer”
Employees who hold the status of “Permanent Lecturer” must receive at least the guaranteed scope of employment defined in the employment plan for a period of two years. The guaranteed scope of employment will not be less than the average scope taught in the two years prior to the approval of the employment plan.
Cumulative Criteria for Eligibility for “Permanent Lecturer” Status
Quantitative criteria:

-
This requirement must be met over a period of four consecutive years preceding the evaluation date (evaluated each May).
Qualitative criterion:
-
The faculty dean, or their representative, has determined that the quality of teaching is adequate.
Final approval of the “Permanent Lecturer” status is granted by the Academic Staff Office (מנל"א) through the Academic Staff Secretariat.
